Re: Vlan taggin on sfp not working, Please help

Thank you for the relpy Vince

What I am working with is a Sonicwall that is delivering the DHCP to each vlan. the "x0" is my default vlan1, x2 is the guest vlan 200 and x3 the vlan 300 for mgmt.  The fist switch that the sonic wall is connected and working as it should.  The 2nd switch is not reciving traffic from the guest vlan 200 or the mgmt vlan 300.  The 2nd switch is recieving vlan1 traffic and working on that particular vlan.  All I want the 2nd switch to do is pass the traffic through to the first switch so it can see the sonicwall and get a DHCP address.  Is there any more information I can share or post that will help trouble shoot this more?  Thank you for the help so far.

I wanted to reply to the forum incase some one else had this issue in the future.  The fix ended up being to enable GVRP on both switches.

Where do I insert this command? I was able to download the startup config but I don't have anything that says configure. I'm working with a default config out of the box.

simple QoS on 1920G

Hello,

I have two wired/wireless networks on the switch, one is the default/untagged vlan 1 and the other is one wired client and one wireless client forming another vlan 508 which I would like to give higher priority. The wired client is directly connected to port 1, and the AP wireless client connected is on port 3, and the AP tags the vlan information. The traffic I would like to give priority is mostly/always from wired client to wireless, so from port 1 to port 3. Is that enough if I set the port priority of port 1 to something higher and then set the queues on port 1 and 3 accordingly (either give weight or setup an SP) ? Do I need a classifier/behavior/policy and port policy assignment for QoS to work ?

Thanks.

Bridge_Aggregation and loop

Hi

I have 4(A,B,C,D say) HP_5900 Switch, Sw A & B are in Stack_1 and C&D are another Stack_2(IRF)
Now we need to make connectivity between Stack_Switch1(A&B) to Stack_2(C&D) for that 2 Bridge_Agg created (45 & 46) at both end and passing common Vlan(12) on all interface associated with Bridge_A(45&46)>>>>>Vlan_interface 12 is created and assign a /30 ip

will this scenario work, without any Port(Bre_AGG) blocking or this will create l2_loop,
what happen if "undo stp globle enable" used

=======================COnfigurtion of Stack1 is below_similar used at other end============
vlan 12

interface Vlan-interface12
ip address 10.19.27.66 255.255.255.252

Two BAGGs (per IRF) interconnecting two different IRF deployments, both carrying the same VLANs, are going to form a loop...something to avoid.

Why two BAGGs? Why - instead - not using a single BAGG on each IRF deployment made of four member ports? that way you will have both IRF interconnected with four links all well distributed (link 1 from A to C, link 2 from A to D, link 3 from B to C and link 4 from B to D).

Hi Parnassus

Thanks for your valuable reply

The scenario mention by me as above came from Planning team

we have testing above in lab with two BAGG with same VLAN

case 1:- when "STP global enable" we found that at one side 1 BAGGs are in ALT state>>>>that is OK and I was expecting the result result>>>>means STP is working properly

Case2:-BUT when we disable STP at one side by "undo STP global enable" >>>I was expected there should be loop>>>but result is different i.e we not notice any loop both the BAGGs working fine and Other side Both BAGGs are showing in forwarding state >>>>unable to find where is GAP, why loop is not created

Table 1. Loop Protection Fields Field Description Loop Protection Enable this feature globally. Transmission Time Enter the time interval, in seconds, between sending Loop Protection packets. Shutdown Time Set the number of seconds that a port remains shut down if a loop has been detected on the port. Loop Protection Select If Loop Protection is enabled on a port, select one of the following actions to occur when a loop is detected: • Log—The event is logged and the port remains operational. • Shutdown port—The port is shut down for the configured period. • Log and Shutdown Port—The event is logged and the port it shut down for the configured period. Interface / Loop Protection Select Enable for each port on which you want to use this feature. Action If Loop Protection is enabled on a port, select one of the following actions to occur when a loop is detected: • Log—The event is logged and the port remains operational. • Shutdown port—The port is shut down for the configured period. • Log and Shutdown Port—The event is logged and the port it shut down for the configured period. Tx Mode If Loop Protection is enabled on a port, select Enable to allow the port to forward packets to the multicast destination MAC address designated for the Loop Protection feature. Select Disable to disallow forwarding.

Click Apply to save any changes for the current boot session; the changes take effect immediately.

To view a summary of how this feature is configured on each port, click Status > Loop Protection in the navigation pane.

Hi,

Thank you for taking time to answer my question. But I don't understand what you are trying to say...

You copied a piece from a manual?

Can you clarify this more please?

thank you.

Update to PT.02.05 FW helps. Now it's OK.

cheers

It is my understanding you only enable loop protection on your "access" ports, not your uplinks.  It's meant to keep the end user from creating a loop if they plug up a switch and create a loop.  We do not enable loop protect on our uplink ports, only end user device ports.

In the default IP address statement 192.168.1.1
I can not connect on this IP, on ping it does not respond. This address in my network is free. Reset switch did it didn't help

It turns out that if you connect it to a network that has DHCP server, it will get the address from it, the manufacturer should have displayed it in the documentation.

1920S 48 cannot acccess default VLAN

I am setting a new HP 1920S 48 switch, I wonder it is different with V19?? switch. I created a untagged VLAN 13 with interface IP 192.168.13.1, I connect a computer as 192.168.13.2.

My problem is why the computer cannot access the Default VLAN 1  ( cannot ping the switch IP 192.168.1.X), I found there have only one route for 192.168.13.0,

Am I missed any route, I cannot add some route like 192.168.1.0  or 0.0.0.0 to swith IP.

Please help.

HP 1920 Link Aggregation trunk hash policy

$

I'm configuring a bonded interface on my HP 1920 48port JG928A and I have it working, but would like to change the way it does the load balancing.

On my server (Debian 8 Jessie) I have setup both of my NICs in a bond and set the xmit_hash_policy to layer2+3 which means it should take into account the MAC and IP address when working out the hash to determine which packet goes on which ethernet device. This is not working. I can see that it's correctly set on the Debian box and I cannot find where in the HP 1920 this setting is kept.

Here is my Aggregation on the HP 1920;

interface Bridge-Aggregation1

  link-aggregation mode dynamic

  port link-type trunk

  port trunk permit vlan 1

Does the HP 1920 allow you to change the hash policy ?

What option do I put in here to set the hash prolicy to layer2+3 which will match the settings I have in debian as described in https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/networking/bonding.txt under xmit_hash_policy?

UPDATE

I looks like HP call the feature trunk-load-balance and it's settings are L2, L3 or L4. Is this feature available on the HP 1920?

Your reference about LACP hashing algorithm is related to HP/HPE ProVision and HPE Aruba ArubaOS-Switch operating system based switch series.

HPE 1920 Switch series is Comware 5 operating system based Web Managed (with "hidden" CLI) so if it is not UI exposed you would try the CLI way to manage that parameter...totally possible it is already L3 with L2 as fallback.
