Re: How to Enable Telnet and SSH on HPE 1920s OfficeConnect

What about SSH?
Configuring switches through a web gui is not really enterprise ready. It wastes A LOT of time. Web GUI (and especially those slow ones like on the 1920s) are for private use only. Nobody who knows what he want's to do needs those GUIs!

Do not forget that HPE OfficeConnect 1920S Switch Series was marketed (and engineered) for the SMB/Small Offices segments (note the "Office" in the name...)...so its management approach (GUI versus CLI) is quite reasonable despite it offers some common features (with limits) we usually associate to enterprise deployments (e.g. IP Routing).

Hi,

Thanks for the advise and tips. I think the issues comes to having a trunk that has multiple VLANS. If I use a simple untagged VLAN on the trunk to the switch it works fine and connects with no issues, as soon as I try and tag some other VLANS onto both sides it falls over.

Not much of an issue for my situation as they were designed to go onto my main desktop domain VLAN anyway, but would like to try and work out what the issue may be.

Hello,

If the VLANs are correctly configured the way you described it in your first post, the VLAN tagging shouldnt cause any issue.

2920, TRK1 on Port 42-43. Vlan 3 Untagged, Vlan 8-10 Tagged.

1920s, TRK1 on Port 47-48, Vlan 3 Untagged, Vlan 8-10 Tagged. Admin mode enabled, STP enabled, Static Mode Enabled, Load Balance, Source/Dest Mac, VLAN, Ethertype, Incomoning port.

If you want to test it once again, you can provide the following outputs here, so we can validate if the VLAN and trunk configuration is correct.

From the 2920:

show vlan port trk1 detail

show trunk

show lacp

You also mentioned that "the 2920 reports there is an issue with this configuration". It would be good to know the exact wording of the log message. You can check for current log messages with the command

show logging -r.

From the 1920s:

Screenshot from VLANs> VLAN Port Configuration, on the page where we see Trk1.

Screenshot from Trunk > Trunk Configuration and Trunk > Statistics.

Could you please give us feedback if you continued the investigation and what turned out to be the issue? If you need help please attach the outputs I mentioned in the previous post.

Sorry about delay in reply. I have managed to get the switches talking on a single VLAN, I will experiment with multiple VLANS next week when time allows. Seems to be stable with a single VLAN and correct PVID as the 2920 advised of an incorrect PVID.

Hi,

In the download section of the JG236A switch I find this:

Comware MIBs_V11 (MIB)

https://bit.ly/32Traze

What is it for? How do i install it?

Thanks

The MIB files are required when you are managing this switch through any NMS server.  Generally you need to compile the MIBs on NMS server.

Hi I have a HPE 1920-24G Switch JG924A and I need to buy a switch ( Switch HP 1920S 48G 4SFP JL382A) this 2 switchs are compatible with Link aggregation? I planing on connecting both switchs and use 4 ports with link aggregation.

Yes, they are.

Those switch series (1920 and 1920S) both support links aggregation (by using a Non Protocol way of links aggregation or by using LACP as link aggregation control protocol); since those switch series differ have a look into their management and configuration guides to see how they "call" the Link Aggregation feature and how to configure it.

HPE 1920S JL381 : Problem with LACP

$

Hi to everyone.

I have some HPE HPE 1920S JL381/JL384  SWITCH connected directly by a single Eth cable, and I want to test in my LAB some configuration for improve the performance, using LACP (TRunk).

There are about 10 vlan configurated, I want to aggregate 3/4 1Gbs port for connect , for example Switch 1 to Switch 2., and improve the bandwith of connection between the 2 switch.

I try both Static and Dynamic trunk mode, all With ALL existing VLAN included and TAGGED, but I see a high  downgrade of speed performance,.. This is the scenario before and after TRUNK :

Before: Switch 1 connected with single Ethernet Cable  to Switch 2

Trasfer n.1 4 GB file from PC in Switch1 to Switch 2 :  About 80 MB/s

Trasfer n.2 4 GB file from PC in Switch1 to Switch 2 :  never over 30 MB/s each trasfer???  Why this loss of speed??

After: Switch 1 connected with n.3 Ethernet Cable  to Switch 2, TRUNK Dynamic mode (same in static mode)

Trasfer 4 GB single file from PC in Switch1 to Switch 2 :  About 80 MB/s

Trasfer n.2 4 GB file from PC in Switch1 to Switch 2 :  never over 30 MB/s each trasfer???  Why this loss of speed, and there aren't improve for the 3x1 Gb/s of connections?

I hope to obtain a real 3Gb/s channel connection using LACP..

Where are my errors???

Thanks a lot.
