Connecting switches 2910al and 1950 over SFP+

$

Hi folks,

My customer has got a couple of older ProCurve 2910al switches, both with 10GbE SFP+ modules (last firmware). I plan to upgrade their network and replace some even older switches with HPE 1950 switches. From the specs it seems possible to connect the 1950 series switches with other SFP+ enabled hardware directly, without investing in transcievers.

Is it possible to connect those different switches with a SFP+ DAC cable? And in that case, passive, or active?

Best regards,

Peter

I can not point range from IP to VLAN

Dears, good morning!

I recently purchased an HP 1620-24G switch (JG913A). I create the VLAN but I can not assign an IP band to this VLAN. The following message "The number of vlan interfaces exceeded the maximum" appears.

I have the range of IP 192.168.10 and 192.168.1. I would like to leave Range 192.168.1 on the VLAN I created.

Hugs.

Prezados, bom dia!

Adquiri recentemente, um switch HP 1620-24G (JG913A). Eu crio a VLAN mas não consigo designar uma faixa de ip para esta VLAN. Aparece a seguinte mensagem "The number of vlan interfaces exceeded the maximum".

Tenho a faixa de IP 192.168.10 e 192.168.1. Gostaria de deixar a Faixa 192.168.1 na VLAN que eu criei.

Abraços.

Can't set IP on tagged VLAN

Hi all.....

I have a probelm with setting IP for my same tagged port in VLANs. I wat to make some wifis with different SSID and subnet. Here are list of my devices :

- 1 Switch HP 1820 - 24G 79980A as my device to configure VLAN and connect router and UAP.

- 1 UAP ( Ubiquiti Access Point ) as my access point. In this access point I already setup 3 SSIDs with different VLANID ( according to VLANIDs in switch ).

- 1 Linksys E1200. This device I configure as a router. I already setup this device to receive internet access from switch.

What I want to do is make some wifi access use UAP as my access point, whoever who connect with one of the wifis will receieve internet access and IP. Each SSID have different subnet with one and another. Because I use UAP just for AP, so I guess I need set IP for each SSID in Switch. In switch I managed to make VLAN and VLANID, here my VLAN configuration in switch :

- VLAN " VAM" VLANID 22 , Tagged port 3

- VLAN "VGZ" VLANID 33, Tagged port 3

- VLAN "VAG" VLANID 44, Tagged port 3

Can I set an IP in tagged port, because I try several times to set IP in tagged port but I just got loading icon which constantly loading until the web page back to login page configure switch and when I login, the setting that I did before not saved. And Why if I configure static IP for port in VLAN default and in the next login I have to plug my nerwork cable in port that I just configured and use the IP in that in web address and so on everytime I set new static IP in VLAN default's port.

And also, I want to ask which design configure the best for the my goal :

1. Should I connect the UAP in port that VLAN not configured and I connect the router in port that VLAN configured ( port 3 ) ? or .............

2. Should I connect the UAP in port that VLAN configured ( port 3 ) and I connect the router in port that VLAN not configured.

Should I make a trunk port ? If yes, please explain for what the trunk port needed.

Thank for reading my problem and kindly to let me know what you think and your suggest..

The problem is solved.  Our switch was shipped without valid system image in its flash memory.  It is brand new one for I broke the seal by myself.

Is this a defect of flash memory?   Should I ask HPE sales to exchange the switch?

While I was watching boot log,  I noticed these messages.  It seemed that our switch could not start for it had invalid system image.  So I downloaded latest firmware image from HPE site to update the firmware.

After loading and writing 1950-cmw710-system-r3113p03.bin, the switch started working as the other one.

Press Ctrl+B to access EXTENDED BOOT MENU ...

Loading the main image files ...

Loading file flash:/1950-cmw710-system-r3109p05.bin.......................Done.

Image file flash:/1950-cmw710-system-r3109p05.bin is invalid!

Loading the backup image files ...

The image does not exist!

Loading images fails.

If i understad you correctly you are trying to apply an IP address for each vlan to the port? I do not think that is possible.

What you can do is set an IP address to the VLAN e.g. interface vlan 22 ip address x.x.x.x x.x.x.x

Which device is providing DHCP for the vlans will it be the switch

And where do you intend to NAT traffic from the different VLANS going out to the internet?

It will be much easier to assist if you provide more details and possibly upload a diagram.

Hi,

I've a problem with the PoE on the HPE V1910-24G-PoE (365W)  JE007A.

When I connect a PoE ready device the switch doesn't supply the power.

In Web Management Platform, PoE - PoE - PSE setup when I try to enable "Non-Standard PD Compatibility" I get error "Poe-power is not ready or communication failed!"

CLI display poe pse the result is:

it seams the PSE software is not installed.

Any idea how to fix it?

Thanks.

the configurationthe configuration

Thanks for your reply. picture above is the configuration that I want set up.

I use HP 1820 24-G as my swicth, UAP ( same in the picture ) as my access point and linksys e1200 as my router to connect to internet.

Base on picture above, I already make VLANs in switch and tag same port for each VLANs. It's possible to add IP in tag port and trunk port ? If it's possible, in reality I can't add IP for my tag port .

Or I have another configuration that I don't know It will work or not. The cofiguration is, I make VLANs in switch and tag same port for each VLANs, and then I use that tag port to connect ( direct cable ) with my UAP which in my UAP I already make VLANs with same VLANIDs like in switch and I use another port in Switch to conncet with router. How about that configuration ?

Detail: which software version (e.g. R1518 or R1518P01) is currently running your JE007?

What is the output for display poe device command?

If you power cycle the JE007 (by disconnecting the AC Power Supply cable - leaving it disconnected for just a minute - and then reconnect it) does the output of the display poe pse command you issued change or not?

Yeah, it seems that the PoE PSE Firmware was faulty/damaged...indeed a normal display poe pse output would be similar to:

<HP_JE007> display poe pse
 PSE ID : 4
 PSE Slot No : 1
 PSE SubSlot No : 0
 PSE Model : LSW124POED
 PSE Power Enabled : enabled

 PSE Current Power : 0 W
 PSE Average Power : 0 W
 PSE Peak Power : 0 W
 PSE Max Power : 170 W
 PSE Remaining Guaranteed : 170 W
 PSE CPLD Version : -
 PSE Software Version : 380
 PSE Hardware Version : 57601
 PSE Legacy Detection : disabled
 PSE Utilization-threshold : 80

Yep, apart from not showing what is expected, that "740 Watt" value looks really irrealistic...probably contacting HPE Support would be actually the best path to start solving your issue (Especially not finding informations regarding how to re-set/re-flash - if that is an admitted operation separated from the normal Switch Firmware update - its PSE PoE Firmware...as is supported other HPE PoE Switch models).

Can't ping the gateway because I can' setup IP for the VLANs in my SWITCH. So my setup stuck in giving IP for each VLANs. everytime I want to change the VLAN ID for setup VLAN IP, the webpage always loading until logout by it self, and when I relogin, the VLANID for setup not change. Here is the picture of loading in my webpage config switch

Hi,

How do I factory reset a 1910-8G-PoE+ JG350A?

2. No access to the CLI

3. previous config unknowen

Thanks!

This switch has Console port for service access. So connect serial cable to this console and power on the switch, when switch start booting wait until system show table with firmware version and will show instruction Press Ctrl+B for Enhanced Boot menu (not basic boot menu!!!).

Beware console port speed is not 9600, but 38400 (because this switch is 3COM originate)

In Boot menu you have choice to reset configuration to default by deleting configuration files (4. Delete files from flash).

Delete appropriate config file (*.cfg, usually startup.cfg), reboot the switch again.

1910-8G is classic Comware switch which has only limited CLI where you can setup just primary IP address. Default state of the switch is DHCP IP allocation on VLAN1 and login admin without password, with http enable. If you don´t have DHCP in network, using console in CLI can do this task. It is only one allowed command.

One warning - 3COM switches was by default delivered with spanning tree enabled as RSTP, with stp edge-port enable functionality. If your network is STP enabled, please configure this before you connect this to the network.

Enjoy this diamond switch.

Both switches are from different product lines and both are not sharing accesories. BUT

ex-Procurve - so 2910al is very strict on transceivers and DAC cables, so here you must use original

But Comware switches (1950 is Comware 7 switch with just webUI) have more freedom. This means, that you can try to interconnect those two with these cables: (try just one x 1m, cost small money)

HPE X242 10G SFP+ to SFP+ 1m Direct Attach Copper Cable J9281B

HPE X242 10G SFP+ to SFP+ 3m Direct Attach Copper Cable J9283B

HPE X242 10G SFP+ to SFP+ 7m Direct Attach Copper Cable J9285B

I am 90% sure that Comware cables JD095/JD096/JD097C will not work for 2910al.

But 100% sure you will be when you will use original transceivers with optics. I understand it is not cheap.

Don´t forget to upgrade firmwares on both switches to the latest version.

Boot-rom with boot-loader files must normally match with switch type.

I think that in factory they possibly/probably made mistake and they preload boot-rom from 5130.

What shows the switch in Boot-rom menu after you succesfully applied 1950 image? Still S5130 boot rom image?

If the image is working now, probably only in factory had some problem and the boot-loader image was not transferred properly.

parnassus: he is in boot menu, not in boot-loader image (this is missing)

Factory probably made a mistake and load bad boot-rom image.

brand command is available in userview of Comware switches and normally on Comware 5, but this is 7. And on some devices can cause big problem (routers for example).

But yes, sometimes this can help. I had problem with 5120-24G SI preloaded with H3C brand and from some version was this brand unsupported.

Re: Can't set IP on tagged VLAN

because of my first problem which can't set IP for my VLANs, I updated the firmware and reset hardwre by pushed reset button. And after I reset to the factory fault, now I can't access the webgui.. I already set my IP in same segment with switch IP ( not work, in first time I configure my switch this way work ), I already disable my firewall and antivirus ( not work ), I reinstall my chrome ( not work ), I reset again the switch ( not work ).. so what shoul I do to access my webgui ?? The IP default in my manual book is 192.168.1.1

I had to manage recently the same equipment. To do this, I have taken a local PC, server, laptop (whenever) and defined a second IP address to my Windows (it will be the same solution on Linux).

This 2nd IP must be in the range 192.168.2.0/24, due to the HPE switch IP defaulty set to "192.168.2.10".

Open a web brower and connect it! :)

Have you tried using different browsers? IE, Mozilla etc or connecting with a different PC? Running updates etc

Initially i thought you were having a logiccal configuration issue instead of a web gui issue :(

You really should be more specfic next time mate
