Routing between two different VLAN subnets (HP 1950 OfficeConnect)

Hi There,

I'm trying to figure out a way to add routing between two different VLAN subnets as seen below;

  • VLAN10 - 10.1.0.0/16
  • VLAN20 - 10.2.0.0/20

I have tried adding a static routing on the switch as 0.0.0.0 with mask 0 and the next hop as the switch interface IP for the VLANs but it doesn't seem to work. I have looked into the switch manual and tried based on its example which didn't seem to work as well.

I'm not much of an expert in routing but if someone can point out as to where I am wrong, will be appreciated.

Awesome and very detailed response. Thank you. I am very concious of how "cheap" these switches are and would not be surprised to find features missing/etc. These are an entry level DC switch afterall. It looks like I'll have to unbox them and jump in the CLI to find out for sure.

I will try find some time for this task next week and report back and "mark as solution" etc. Thanks again.

PS: No idea how to change category of this post. Can't seem to find the option.

It's great if you will be able to share your findings!

I think that HPE OfficeConnect 1950 Switch series is pretty misunderstood (or just simply overlooked in favour of more expensive Comware based Switch series) despite its hidden potential especially when we consider that it runs on Comware 7 (so, in the end, the IRF, even if MAD mechanism is not implemented, remains a great technology for this class of hardware).

Will eventually notify the HPE Community (Networking category) moderator to move this thread to Comware based sub-Category.

V1910-48G switch web management GU misbehaves after upgrading to 5.20.R1518P01 FW using Web mgmt GUI

I updated my R1111 software to R1518P01, using the web mgmt GUI, device->device maintenance.

after the reboot the web mgmt GUI misbehaves ridiculously,.

If I log in, click Device, and then click on Device Management or System Time or almost any other choice, I don't reach the menu choice but instead the Web User Login panel appears, sometimes with some style document errors like the user name and password being slightly displaced relative to the panel.

If I keep logging in on the login panels as they appear, eventually I will get an error message

"The number of login users has reached the maximum!" and then I must wait for a web timeout on the switch to try again

The switch SEEMS to work as a switch, but this is very unsatisfactory.

All of my switches are now HW rev.B, Bootrom v 178, 3Com Baseline Switch 2952-SFP Plus Software Version Release 1518P01

One of them has serial no 927FDFS4591FD

As an aside:

The reason for the upgrade frenzy was supposedly rational: we had had trouble setting up NTP timekeeping on the switches, so we started assuming that could be fixed in later FW.

I tried the following;

ntp-service source-interface Vlan-interface 1

ntp-service unicast-server <ip_address>

in a 1910 switch with 5.20.R1518P01 software, however "display clock" and "display ntp-service status" show that ntp is not active.

What am I missing???

What do you get from a "dis ntp status", should be....

[SWITCH-00]dis ntp status
Clock status: synchronized
Clock stratum: 4
Reference clock ID: 192.168.100.1
Nominal frequency: 100.0000 Hz
Actual frequency: 100.0000 Hz
Clock precision: 2^18
Clock offset: 29.8469 ms
Root delay: 7.23 ms
Root dispersion: 53.85 ms
Peer dispersion: 0.00 ms
Reference time: 11:01:46.692 UTC Apr 11 2017(DC97361A.B14A3C64)
[SWITCH-00]

If you are synchronizing to an external server, then ensure that you are allowing this out through the firewall.

No I get "unsynchronized."

There seems to be something missing, something to tell the ntp client to start.

Following another answer here, I tried "ntp-service enable" but that was rejected by the cli.

The subject line should of course say "V1910-48G switch web management GUI misbehaves..."

So, consider my question to be: What do you tell system-view in a _cmdline-mode cli over telnet, in order to make the ntp client to start?

in my recent-FW V1910, loggin in over telnet, enabling _cmdline-mode and entering system-view, the command "ntp-service enable" is rejected.

What reference clock are you trying to get NTP from?

Please share the output of "dis ntp trace" as below...

I found it. It was entirely unrelated to the ntp-service command.

I had somehow lost the wildcard 0.0.0.0 static route, but once I put that back in, ntp started nicely.

Using the two commands you showed.

Thats great news, glad you got it sorted.

I couldnt figure out why it wasnt working unless for some reason you couldnt see the ip address of the ntp reference clock :)

Jumbo frames on HP ProCurve 1810G - 24 GE, P.1.17, eCos-2.0

$

HI all,

I'm trying to use jumbo frames over a HP ProCurve 1820G - 24 GE switch:

System Description

HP ProCurve 1810G - 24 GE, P.1.17, eCos-2.0 System Name System Location System Contact Software Version P.1.17 System Object ID 1.3.6.1.4.1.11.2.3.7.11.104 System Up Time 0 days, 1 hours, 26 mins, 24 secs Current Time 17:26:24 ( hh:mm:ss ) Date 12/31/1969

Switching -> Enable Jumbo Frames is set, Status ->Port Summary shows 9216 bytes MTU for all ports.

I have tried to "ping -s 4000" on linux or "ping -l 4000" on windows between 4 machines. All had the interface's MTU set to 8192 or higher. I didnot receive a single ICMP reply.

Is there a bug in the switches' firmware?

Also, please note how it is an 1820 switch, but the firmware says its 1810. Is that a problem?

Thanks!
